Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Council & Committee Meetings – Aug. 2019 (rev. 8/6/19)


Public Service Committee: Tuesday, Aug. 6 at 7:00 pm at Curtis Hall, 20 South Street.  On the agenda will be: TBA

Zoning Committee:  Wednesday, Aug. 7 at 7:00 pm at Farnsworth House, 90 South Street. The agenda include:  1).  A petition by 9-11 Seaverns Avenue to combine existing 6-family apartment buildings at 5 Brown Terrace, 7 Brown Terrace, 9 Seaverns Avenue, and 11 Seaverns Avenue, and renovate existing unfinished basement of 24-unit combined apartment building to create 9 new/additional units in basement.  Combined building to have 33 units in total.  Basement to be fully sprinklered;  2). A petition by 21 Rocky Nook Terrace to erect a new single-family house on a newly subdivided lot, per plans.

Education Committee: Tuesday, Aug. 20 at 7:00 pm at Curtis Hall, 20 South Street. The agenda will be:  TBA

Housing & Development Committee: Tuesday, Aug. 20 at 7:00 pm at Bowditch School building, 82 Green Street (enter at sidewalk level to left of Main stairs). On the agenda will be 2 Article 80 projects: 1). Pine Street Inn and The Community Builders, Inc., are proposing a six-story, new construction, mixed-use building at 3368 Washington Street and with an estimated 225 affordable residential units, with 140 units designated for supportive housing for formerly homeless individuals and 85 units for families from a range of incomes. 2).  Urban Edge is proposing the construction of a new six-story, approximately 75,000 square foot mixed-use building at 1595 – 1599 Columbus Avenue that will include approximately 65 units of affordable rental apartments and 4,000 square feet of non-residential space on the ground floor.

Zoning Committee:  Wednesday, Aug. 21 at 7:00 pm at Farnsworth House, 90 South Street.  The agenda will include an informational presentation by Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital on the proposed campus expansion at 1153 Centre Street.

2. Review/approve minutes of the 6/25/19 Council Minutes.

  • 3.1 Second announcement of 1 vacancy on the Council in Area C (Woodbourne, Jamaica Hill, Moss Hill, Pondside).
  • 3.2 Second announcement of 2 vacancies on the Council in Area A (Hyde Square, Jackson Square, Egleston Square).

  • 4.1 Update from Bylaws Committee.

5. Working and Ad Hoc Committee reports/recommendations:

  • 5.1. Education Ad Hoc Committee:  Update.
  • 5.2. Zoning Committee: Recommendation regarding the petition by 41 Pershing Road to renovate attic space and convert to additional living space; construct roof dormer and new stairs to attic; new space to include master bedroom, closet, and bathroom.  
  • 5.3. Public Service Committee: 1).  A VOTE supporting the request of 3700 Wash LLC, doing business as “Eugene O’Neill’s”, at 3700 Washington Street for a 7-day common victualler all-alcohol beverage license, with a 1:00am closing hour, with Melissa Hunt as manager, and also for an entertainment license for four TVs, trivia, karaoke, and up to three live performers.  2). A VOTE to write a letter to the City of Boston Chief of Streets asking for striping and enforcement of the fire lane on Robinwood Avenue.
  • 5.4. Housing & Development Committee: Update on discussion of the City’s Inclusionary Development Policy (IDP) and current efforts to update the IDP.
  • 5.5. Parks + Ad Hoc Committee: Update on JP Park Audit.

Public Service Committee: Tuesday, July 2 at 7:00 pm at Curtis Hall, 20 South Street. On the agenda will be: 1). The petition of Eugene O’Neill’s at 3700 Washington Street for a 7-day Common Victualler All-Alcohol Beverage License with a 1:00 am closing hour, with Melissa Hunt as manager, and an Entertainment License for four TVs, trivia, karaoke, and up to three live performers; 2). The petition of J-Pizle Kitchen at 536 Centre Street for a 7-day Common Victualler Beer & Wine License with an 11:00 pm closing hour, with Cindy Villada as manager, and an Entertainment License for three TVs and up to three live performers.

Zoning Committee:  Wednesday, July 10 at 7:00 pm at Farnsworth House, 90 South Street. The agenda will be: 41 Pershing Road, a request to renovate attic space and convert to additional living space; construct roof dormer and new stairs to attic; new space to include master bedroom, closet, and bathroom.  Also on the agenda will a vote to fill the vacancy. 

Education Ad Hoc Committee: Tuesday, July 16 at 7:00 pm at Curtis Hall, 20 South Street. The agenda will be:  TBA

Housing & Development Committee: Tuesday, July 16 at 7:00 pm at Bowditch School building, 82 Green Street (enter at sidewalk level to left of Main stairs). On the agenda will be a continued discussion of the City’s Inclusionary Development Policy (IDP) and current efforts to update the IDP; the purpose of the IDP is to create and preserve affordable housing.

Parks + Ad Hoc Committee:  Wednesday, July 19 at 6:00 pm at JP Licks. The agenda will be:   A discussion on a JP Park Audit.

Zoning Committee:  Wednesday, July 24 at 7:00 pm at Farnsworth House, 90 South Street. The agenda will be:  1). The petition of 4 Hagar Street to extend Unit 3 living space into deeded attic space via new rear stair; light/vent through existing windows into two floors; modify sprinkler system to include new attic space; 2). The petition of 15 Bancroft Street to change occupancy from three-family to four-family dwelling; add fourth story and rear addition to building with new decks and egress stairs; add two parking spaces in basement; building to be fully sprinklered.
