Become One of 1,000 Friends of the Jackson Square Ice Rink

A spectacular new Recreation Center, which would house an indoor skating rink for most of the year and a turf field for the remaining months, is planned for development in Jackson Square at the border of Roxbury and Jamaica Plain. This facility will be a vital resource for the thousands of young people and their families in JP and Roxbury, but the project needs to show support from the community to raise the necessary funds to start building!

In November 2011, Governor Deval Patrick announced that the state would invest up to $5.7 million to help build the Rec Center, but the community must raise significant funds of its own to qualify for those state dollars. In order to apply for private grant funding, it is important for Roxbury and JP residents to show how important this project is for our communities!

Here’s how you can help: click here to download a form to become a ‘Friend’ of the Jackson Square Ice Rink. Fill out the second page of the form, and make whatever donation you are able to afford. The most important thing is demonstrating community support, so don’t hesitate to send in the form if you’re unable to make a large donation! The Friends of the Kelly Rink are coordinating the campaign to enlist 1,000 Friends of the Jackson Square Ice Rink, and your donation will go to Urban Edge, the developer who is building the Rec Center.

Below, are some spectacular images of what the new corner of Jackson Square and the inside of the Rec Center could look like – please help us make this dream for our community become a reality!
